Reach Forklift Truck Training Course

Accredited Operator Training | Hands-On Instruction | Certified Safety Compliance

Course Overview:

Our Reach Forklift Truck Training Course is designed to equip operators with the specialist knowledge and practical skills required to operate reach trucks safely and confidently in fast-paced warehouse environments. This course ensures full compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and is suitable for beginners, experienced operators, and those in need of refresher training.

Reach trucks are built for high-racking operations in narrow aisles, commonly used in warehouses and distribution centres. Their extendable forks and superior lift heights make them ideal for indoor pallet work — but they also demand precision, spatial awareness, and a strong grasp of load handling at height.

Who Is This Course For?

  • Novice Operators: Those with little or no previous forklift experience.
  • Experienced Operators: Individuals with experience but no formal qualification.
  • Refresher Candidates: Operators who need to renew expired or outdated certification.
  • Warehouse Staff or Employers: Wanting to ensure team compliance and safety.

Course Content:

Theory Training:

  • Introduction to reach trucks and their operational role
  • Key differences between reach and counterbalance trucks
  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 responsibilities
  • PUWER & LOLER regulations explained
  • Truck components, functions, and safety features
  • Load stability, weight distribution, and lift height safety
  • Identifying hazards: racking systems, blind spots, and turning radius
  • Daily pre-use checks and defect reporting
  • Battery maintenance, charging safety, and emergency procedures

Practical Training:

  • Full machine walk-around and daily inspection procedures
  • Safe start-up, shutdown, and steering techniques
  • Precise control of reach mechanisms and lift heights
  • Pallet pick-up and placement in various racking systems
  • Operating in narrow aisles and confined warehouse areas
  • Working at height with visibility and stability in mind
  • Safe parking, stacking, de-stacking, and emergency drills
  • Realistic workplace simulation and practical assessment

Assessment & Certification:

The course includes both a written theory assessment and a practical driving evaluation. Successful trainees will receive an accredited operator certificate and/or operator’s card, valid for up to 3 years depending on the accrediting body.

Our training is delivered in accordance with HSE Approved Code of Practice L117 by qualified, experienced instructors.
